To ensure the park is accessible, welcoming, and safe for all visitors
In response to the growing number of visitors to Dix Park during and after the COVID-19 pandemic, the Dix Park Conservancy and the City of Raleigh worked together to address critical accessibility needs. Funded by Wake County through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), these improvements aim to ensure the park is accessible, welcoming, and safe for all visitors.
Key Accessibility Improvements
Sidewalk Repairs and Additions:
Existing sidewalks were repaired, and new walkways were constructed to connect key areas of the park, ensuring seamless navigation for all visitors, including those with mobility challenges.
Enhanced Safety Features:
Upgrades included the installation of pedestrian ramps, crosswalks, and improved lighting to create a safer environment for everyone, particularly during evening hours.
Access to Program Areas:
New pathways were built to connect major event and program spaces, making it easier for visitors to participate in activities and events throughout the park.
Expanded Facilities:
Additional restroom facilities were added to accommodate longer visits, enhancing comfort and convenience for families and individuals exploring the park.
