Residency Includes a One-Year Budget of $80,000

(RALEIGH, NC) - Aug 26, 2024 - The Dix Park Conservancy, in partnership with the Raleigh Arts and with generous funding from the Carlyle Adams Foundation, announced today an open call for Dix Park’s new Artist in Residence program. 

The program is seeking artists or artist teams who live or work in North Carolina; especially those interested in environmental art, land art, environmental stewardship, and working with natural materials and sustainable practices.

“We are thrilled to launch our Artist in Residence program at Dix Park, where we believe in art for everyone,” said Nick Neptune, Director of Outreach at Dix Park Conservancy. “This new program allows us to support artists across our state, provide them with a unique space to create, and invite the public to engage with the artistic process. We can’t wait to see how this program will enrich our park and inspire everyone who visits.”

The program will be hosted inside the renovated Physician’s House at Dix Park, originally built in the 1920s. The workspace can be found on the second floor, featuring plenty of light, and views of Dix Park and Downtown Raleigh. The residency comes with a total one-year budget of $80,000, including artwork fabrication, supplies for community events and a stipend of $2,000 per month. The residency does not include housing.

The Dix Park Artist in Residence is encouraged to explore ecologically focused artworks that should inspire Raleigh residents and tourists to visit Dix Park and its surrounding communities, while continuing the mission of the park as a place that “honors the legacy of the land and brings new meaning to the landscape; bringing the community together in a place of wellness, belonging, and celebration for all.” 

This program follows the recent launch of Dix Park’s public art project, a major privately-funded initiative focused on developing and showcasing international-caliber art projects across the park’s 308-acre grounds.
