Gipson Play Plaza

The Gipson Play Plaza at Dix Park will provide an opportunity to bring the community together and offer something for everyone. This 18.5-acre area off Lake Wheeler Road will become the welcoming grand entrance for the park and will attract visitors from near and far. World-renowned landscape architect firm Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates has completed the design, and construction will begin in summer 2022.

Grand Plaza & Waterfall

This iconic entrance to Gipson Play Plaza will feature a waterfall wall as a sun-lit backdrop to the Grand Plaza. The Plaza, complete with a grand stair that can double as seating, will become a venue for community gatherings, performances, and festivals.

Adventure Play Areas

Visitors of all ages and abilities will delight in multi-level play gardens, towers with connected skywalks, slides, scrambles, climbing structures, a Sand Bowl, a Sensory Maze, and a Watermill Mountain.

Picnic Grove and Swing Terrace

With picnic tables, umbrellas, and grills, the Picnic Grove will be a space where families and friends can share a meal and enjoy each other’s company. The Swing Terrace, located near the Grove, will provide park-goers with another view of the beloved century-old oaks and iconic Raleigh skyline.
