Discover the History of Dix Park’s 308 Acres
You may know of the site’s most recent history as Dorothea Dix Hospital, but there are even more stories of this land dating back to the 1700s!
We invite you to discover the rich and complex history of the land we now know as Dix Park by taking the 2.7-mile self-guided walking (or running or biking) route suggested in the map below. The route follows along the newly installed historical signage made possible by a grant from the Jandy Ammons Foundation and from generous donors to the Conservancy.
And, to learn more about historical points of interest from the comfort of home, watch this series with City of Raleigh historian Ernest Dollar on the Dix Park YouTube channel.
